Durham Home, Inc. continues the legacy of Sarah Durham with the Mission to support women of all ages through the provisions of exceptional living accommodations, scholarships, and empowerment projects with the Vision
to positively impact the lives of women.
Scholarship Grants were created in 2020 to support higher education for female high school students in Montgomery County, Indiana.
In 2020, we provided a total of $6,000 to 3 female high school seniors.
In 2021, we provided a total of $6,000 to 3 female high school seniors.
In 2022, we provided a total of $7,500 to 3 female high school seniors.
Another Scholarship Grant was created in 2021 to support continuing education for women in Montgomery County, Indiana.
The two Scholarship Grants are described below:
The Durham Home, Inc. Scholarship was established in 2020 to further impact Sarah Durham's mission to embolden women. Each year, a senior female high school student, residing in a Montgomery County school district, accepted to a college or university in the State of Indiana in a degreed program, can apply for the scholarship. Starting in 2024, the Scholarship will be awarded to one female senior student in Montgomery County.
The Montgomery County Community Foundation administers this scholarship.
The Durham Home Inc. Scholarship Fund was created by the Durham Home Inc. board of directors in 2021 to honor Shirley O’Neall’s service to the organization for over 50 years. The purpose of this scholarship is to support local women pursuing education in a non-traditional manner.

As part of our Mission, we support other non-profit organizations that aligns with our Mission and Vision. Some of the organizations and projects we support annually are as follows:
Inspire is a non-profit program for middle and high school girls in Montgomery County. The group meets twice a month in an informal atmosphere to discuss topics and issues facing teen girls. The girls do crafts, take trips, talk and most importantly...eat! Inspire provides a safe place where girls can come and explore issues and topics they may be facing or may face in the future.
I Can Be An Engineer, Inc. is a non-profit organization that reaches out to elementary school children to inform, educate, inspire, and generate excitement about the field of engineering. The mission of I Can Be An Engineer is to inform and excite young children about engineering, with the goal to inspire more girls to become engineers. The I Can Be An Engineer program opens the dynamic world of engineering to the bright minds of young learners. Throughout the presentation students discover the exciting world of engineering, enhance vocabulary skills through literature, and learn that they too can become an engineer.
The Women’s Legacy Fund of the Montgomery County Community Foundation makes grants to local nonprofits with a mission to support women and/or their children in Montgomery County.
